As many of our clients already know, USCIS has been experiencing significant backlogs in adjudicating many types of applications.  However, the I-751 Removal of Conditions petitions are among the slowest to be processed. Conditional permanent residents rely on the receipt notice as proof of legal status to work and re-enter the United States.

In an effort to ameliorate these slow processing times, the government will now issue receipts with an 18-month validity as opposed to the previous 12-month validity. For those applications that are already pending as of June 11, 2018, the government will issue new receipt notices valid for 18 months.   Those individuals who have currently pending I-751 petitions should expect an updated receipt notice in the next several weeks. If your current receipt notice is expiring you still may need to obtain an I-551 stamp in the interim.
