Germany has approved a law to permit dual citizenship! Until now, German citizens have not been permitted to hold dual citizenship. These restrictions will be dropped. In practice, this means that German citizens living in the U.S. may now apply for U.S. citizenship and keep their German citizenship. Germany will join many other countries around the world in allowing its citizens to hold citizenship in more than one country. The law is set to go into effect in June 2024. Thus, now is the time for German citizens who once avoided applying for U.S. citizenship to take advantage of the benefits of U.S. citizenship, including a much more secure U.S. immigration status!
