The. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has completed the expansion of biometric facial comparison technology at all international airports across the United States, called “Simplified Arrival”.  The program automates the manual checks that are already required for admission into the United States The goal of this project is to streamline international travel.

As arriving travelers approach the inspection booth, CBP takes a photo of each traveler.  Based on the picture, the officer can quickly see in their computer the traveler’s passport and visa.  As usual, the officer will then interview the traveler to validate the results, establish the purpose and intent of travel, and determine admissibility. .

As a result, CBP has begun eliminating putting physical stamps in traveler’s passports upon arrival. While this process saves time, many of our clients know that passport stamps serve as an important record when it comes to one’s immigration matters. When returning to the U.S., we recommend immediately reviewing your Form I-94. It is important to make sure the government correctly admitted you into the U.S.  The form is available online https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home or through the CBP One mobile app. We also recommend keeping a travel log of entries and exits. This will serve as a useful tool for future immigration matters. For example, a travel log will prove valuable if and when an individual applies for U.S. citizenship or potentially in extending temporary work status.
