The Reuniting Families Bill has been reintroduced to the U.S. Congress, giving renewed hope to immigrant families who are currently apart as a result of immigration delays and backlogs.

If passed, the Act would re-classify the children and spouses of lawful permanent residents as “immediate relatives”, enabling them to qualify for straight away for a green card, and the number of available family-based and employment-based green cards would also increase. Same-sex couples, who currently face discrimination in our immigration laws, would also benefit.

Family unification brings clear benefits to the U.S. social fabric and economy. We hope that Congress will give this legislation the thoughtful and compassionate consideration it deserves.
